19th C. High Quality Bolo from Luzon

Fine 19th century fighting bolo from Luzon probably from the later part of the Spanish colonial period.

I like this kind of bolos they are elegant and with a fine craftsmanship but at the same time they are heavy and sturdy ready for hard work and the bolo we offer you is a good example. Based on the quality of the work probably could have belonged to a rebel officer that fought against the Spaniards, there are fighting scares on the edge to prove it, however is something that we cannot ensure although it has all the features.

The horn handle is delicately carved with floral and geometric motives and adorned with silver nails that enhance its beauty, time ago there was a silver wire enhancing the handle too but now is lost. The pommel cap and the ferrule, simple but well crafted, are made of brass.

The heavy and laminated blade is of top quality, it begins with a nice brass ricasso that creates an unusual set forming a tiny but interesting crossguard and on both sides of the blade there are beautiful floral carvings, being also the ones in the right inlayed in brass, a really great blade.

Unfortunately no scabbard.

In the last picture there is a comparative with the other bolo of the same kind to show its big size.

The bolo with an overall length of  49,5 cm has a blade of  35 cm long with a thickness at the beginning of the spine of 6,5 mm.

Condition: Some minor chips in the horn, the silver wire that once was in the handle is lost, there is an age crack in the handle that doesn't affect its integrity and the blade has some battle nicks but as you can see in the pictures is in great condition.

An scarce fighting bolo with great handle and great blade.
